Dexeus Mujer opens new Assisted Reproduction Facilities

This past September, the entire Assisted Reproduction Department of Dexeus Mujer relocated to a new space that spands nearly 1,000 m2 in the basement of our premises. The reason for the move was to facilitate patient access, centralise all of the procedures performed in this department, and also to renovate the facilities and update our arsenal of equipment to ensure that it continues to feature the most advanced technologies. One example is dynamic human embryo monitoring, a technology which allows the real-time observation of developing embryos from the first second. Although our IVF lab already had access to this technology, its relocation to larger facilities has allowed us to acquire enough machines to monitor up to 500 embryos at a time.

We also installed an automated and centralised management system in the Cryopreservation Laboratory (which is where frozen oocytes, sperm and embryos are stored) which monitors and controls environmental conditions at all times to ensure the optimal preservation of biological material. As regards Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), we have acquired new specialised equipment which features the Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology, the most advanced in its field for studying the genome.

We have also incorporated a new digitised identification system which relies on QR codes to allow the consistent identification of all the biological samples of each patient, thereby improving the quality and safety of the entire process.
